Scaling & Polishing
Dental scaling and polishing is recommended to prevent tooth decay and gum disease, and is usually advised once every six months depending on the oral condition of a patient. Infections and diseases can spread from the mouth to the rest of the body and can have an impact on the overall health of the individual. Hence, it is important to maintain good oral health and hygiene.
Scaling removes plaque and tartar and polishing removes stains and the remaining plaque while smoothening and shining the teeth so that dental plaque cannot attach easily to tooth surfaces.
Fillings
A Filling is material that fills the opening that’s left after a decayed portion of a tooth has been removed. Fillings fall into three categories: amalgam, composite and GIC.
a) Amalgam Fillings use an alloy (mixture) of mercury and other metals (such as silver, copper or tin) that is carved and contoured after placement in the tooth.
b) Composite Fillings use a composite made of minute glass or ceramic particles that are mixed into a gel-like substance. The color of the substance is similar to that of a tooth. After it is applied to the tooth, the composite is hardened using a light that causes it to solidify almost instantly.
c) GIC Fillings use a gel-like composite (mixture) made of minute glass particles. After it is applied to the tooth, it sets within five to 10 minutes. The composite bonds to the tooth and releases fluoride into the tooth for a period of time.
RCT
Root canal or endodontic treatment—is necessary when the pulp becomes inflamed or infected. The inflammation or infection can have a variety of causes: deep decay, repeated dental procedures on the tooth, faulty crowns, or a crack or chip in the tooth. In addition, trauma to a tooth may cause pulp damage even if the tooth has no visible chips or cracks. If pulp inflammation or infection is left untreated, it can cause pain or lead to an abscess.
During root canal or endodontic treatment, the inflamed or infected pulp is removed and the inside of the tooth is carefully cleaned and disinfected, then filled and sealed with a rubber-like material called gutta-percha. Afterwards, the tooth is restored with a crown or filling for protection. After restoration, the tooth continues to function like any other tooth.
Endodontic treatment helps you maintain your natural smile, continue eating the foods you love and limits the need for ongoing dental work. With proper care, most teeth that have had root canal treatment can last a lifetime.
Dental Crowns/Bridges
Dental crown is a cap that strengthens a tooth, restores it to its normal shape and size, or covers a discoloured or badly shaped tooth. A crown is also placed on top of an implant to provide the look of a natural tooth. Zirconia crown is a popular type of all-ceramic crown which is worn to improve the appearance of a tooth which has become stained or disfigured over the years. They are durable, easy to wear and long lasting. Plus zirconia crowns have a translucent appearance which make them look like your natural teeth.
